My experience at trying to buy an Apple iPhone 4 in Montreal
David — Sat, 07/31/2010 - 1:48de la tarde
I arrived home Friday night from my camping trip. Too late to go get the new Apple iPhone 4. Though it did cross my mind but the thought of my wife's response as I headed out the door and she was left with unpacking and putting the kids to bed, was enough to kill that idea.
Instead, I headed out early Saturday morning to try to get one. Having been in the woods (unplugged), I really did not have any clue as to the Apple store scene. Was it a mad house? Or due to the antennagate would the demand be low and the lines manageable? My plan was to go downtown and park in between the Fido store and the Apple store. Double my chances I thought. As I drove by the 200 person line in front of the Sainte-Catherine street Apple store at 9:30am, I immediately lost some steam. Was I really surprised? I parked, and got in line. An employee promptly told us that the line was approximately 2-3 hours long and that the 32GB was sold out.
So off to the Fido store. As I approached, I saw only a few people out front and two cops. Not bad I thought. The closer I got, I saw the cops were talking to a homeless guy and there was no line at all. Either I am the smartest guy on that street, or Fido was not selling them. You can guess which. But thought I would try another Fido store just the hell of it. This is the part of the story that if I were creating a fictional tale, I would say I found a little boutique kiosk that had two phones left and I got one. But, no such ending here. I drove home discouraged, and wondering why I even tried. Of course Apple is going to short the stock and drive demand. They always do and it always works.
