New MobileMe web-based Calendar (Beta)
Apple has launched it's new beta MobileMe web-based calendar that allows sharing among other MobileMe users. Users who have been given the opportunity to opt into a beta testing program for the calendar. Those who did are now receiving their invitations.
Calendar sharing has long been a missing feature of iCal. Although one has always been able to publish a calendar that others could subscribe to, multiple users could not edit the same calendar, without resorting to using Mac OS X Server. Those who did use Mac OS X Server to share group calendars, were rudely cut off by Apple when the group calendaring was deliberately broken in the 10.6.4 client OS update. Now we know why, to pave the way for a new MobileMe feature. It is not the first time Apple has intentionally removed features from it's upgrades.
Apple says:
To use the MobileMe Calendar beta, you need to be running iOS 4 on iPhone or iPod touch, iOS 3.2 on iPad, Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.4. For more details on system requirements and answers to other questions, please read this FAQ.
