Facebook Email Fraud
Beware of a fraudulent email claiming to be from facebook, urging you to update your account.
DON'T DO IT!!
It looks very legitimate, on the surface to many people. It has the facebook look to it. Don't be fooled by an email just because it has a company's logo and graphics.
So how does one know if it is legit or not?
- Look at the address it comes from. Does it say name@facebook.com or does it say something like update+hvsxfnes@facebookmail.com? Notice the domain name is slightly different?
- Next, most legitimate companies like facebook or Citibank would never ask you to sign in directly from their email.
- Hover your mouse over their link and see what the real link is.
- Lastly, do a quick Google search. If it is a hoax, someone has most likely said so online somewhere.
The most important thing is never click a link inside an email that you are not sure of. Never reply to it either. And please do not forward it to someone else. If it does contain a virus or trojan horse, you don't want to pass it along to your friends or family.
