Akamai Download Manager: What is it?
If you monitor your outgoing network traffic on your computer, which I strongly suggest you do, you may have come across an application called Akamai trying to open a port to make an outgoing connection.
There may be some cause for alarm, but perhaps not.
Adobe uses a program called Akamai Download Manager to facilitate downloading apps directly from their site. This app runs in the background and most people would not know it is there. The possible cause for alarm is that it runs in the background and most people don't know it is there and don't know what it is doing.
You do the following at your own risk.
Here is info on how to remove Akamai Download manager.
On Mac OS X (10.5.4) Java applets are also cached. To clear the cache and remove Akamai DLM:
1. Locate Java Control Panel at /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences
2. Click on Security
3. Click Delete Files to delete all Cached applets. or
4. Click View Cache Files. and Select Application(s) named dlm-java-****.jar.
5. Click Remove.
You should also delete the the application and this file: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.akamai.client.plist
